Garmin have designed a range of sports watches called Forerunner. Most of the Forerunners use GPS (Global Positioning System) which enables the user to record useful training data such as; distance travelled, time, speed, altitude and more.
The Garmin Forerunner Sports Watches are popular with road runners, long distant runners and triathletes who use the information to monitor training performance and to plan and navigate new training routes.
The Garmin GPS Sports Watches can also be used to navigate as you run. Runners can ”input” their current location, they can then change the coodinates and use the personal GPS device to navigate to the new coordinates (final destination).
The Garmin Forerunner watches include time display, real time location updates (live), as you move.
After a training session the athelete can download the training session data onto their computer, which can then be compared to previous training data or even compared with a training partner.
Athletes can also use www.gpsies.com to plan a training route/course. This information is then easily downloaded to the Forerunner and used to navigate the run. For a change, athletes might like to use this method to navigate for a cross country bike ride instead.
The Garmin Forerunner GPS Sports Watches are a great training tool for the modern day athlete. There are many styles available for men and women, some are water resistant, some come with a heart rate monitor (or both) and for the fashion conscious athlete there is a great color selection from black, white, blue, green, pink, lilac and more.
